Why you’ll love this recipe

This honey garlic butter chicken is marvelously quick to prepare, making it ideal for hectic evenings. The sweetness from the honey combined with the savory garlic and buttery richness creates an irresistible sauce that coats each piece of chicken beautifully. My kids absolutely love the slightly sticky, saucy texture, and I appreciate how easily I can whip this up. Plus, it’s a surefire way to make dinner feel special without spending ages in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (5–8 oz. each)
  • Salt and pepper
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 ½ tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • ¼ cup chicken broth (optional)
  • Fresh parsley / green onions, chopped (optional)

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Whisk the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar to make the sauce.
  2. Pound the chicken breasts to ½″ thickness.
  3. Season the chicken with salt and pepper and dredge them in flour on both sides, shaking off any excess flour.
  4. In a skillet over medium-high heat, melt 3 tablespoons of butter and sear the chicken on one side for 4-5 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Flip the chicken and sear on the other side for another 1-2 minutes.
  6. Turn the heat down to medium and melt the remaining tablespoon of butter. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Pour in the sauce and simmer until the sauce thickens and the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165ºF.
  8. (Optional) To make it saucier, add chicken broth to the sauce.
  9. Turn the chicken to coat the other side in the sauce before serving and top with parsley or green onions if desired.

Recipe tips & variations

If you’re looking to mix things up, consider using chicken thighs instead for a slightly richer flavor. You can also add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a little heat. Serving this dish with a side of rice or steamed broccoli can help soak up the delicious sauce. Feel free to play around with the ingredients based on preference or what you have available.

Storage & reheating

This chicken dish stores well in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. To reheat, use a skillet over low heat to preserve the sauce's texture, or microwave in short increments until warmed through. If the sauce seems too thick after refrigerating, add a bit of water or chicken broth to loosen it up while reheating.
